Firstly they will want to see a good sales-orientated CV. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you need sales experience but it does mean that you will need to demonstrate you have the skills and abilities to do the job.
It is always good to open with a personal mission statement containing your career objectives and an overview of your characteristics. This should then be followed by Education and achievements, full time work experience (if applicable) and a separate category for work undertaken whilst in education.
It is a bonus if you have any kind of sales or customer service experience.
When interviewing, our clients will be looking for lots of personality, bags of confidence and a high degree of drive and enthusiasm. You need to be a team player, a good listener, persistent, persuasive and resilient and possess a good sense of humour. You will also need to be able to speak articulately about why you are looking for a long-term career within sales and, specifically, in the media sales industry.
It goes without saying that you will need to demonstrate a high command of the English language, be exceptionally articulate and competent with mental arithmetic.
Whilst many clients operate a smart-casual dress code, for the purposes of an interview you will need to be at your best so make sure you have a smart black, dark blue or dark grey suit and clean those shoes!
